Duke University Broadway Series in Durham attracts plays bound for the nation's premier stages which feature Tony award winning actors, directors and producers.

Center Stage at Stewart Theater in Raleigh is a major presenter of the nation's finest professional off Broadway theater.

The North Carolina Theater in Raleigh's Memorial Auditorium offers big stage musicals and dramas with New York cast leads.

Raleigh Little Theater is one of the oldest community theaters in the country, featuring classic comedy and popular drama.

Theater in the Park in Raleigh is community theater know for outstanding classic, original and avant-garde works, and is the largest community theater in North Carolina.

The Triangle Dinner Theater in Durham at the Governor's Inn offers light musicals and comedies and an elegant buffet.

Musical and Performing Arts

The North Carolina Symphony is a highly respected major national symphony, frequently featuring acclaimed international celebrities. The Symphony is a state-supported orchestra and plays concerts in one hundred North Carolina cities including Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.

Walnut Creek Ampitheater is a part of Raleigh's 240 acre Walnut Creek Park. The ampitheater holds approximately 20,000 people, 7,000 under the roof.

Duke Artist Series in Durham is held in the acoustically superior Page Auditorium, and caters to excellent performances in music, opera and dance.

The American Dance Festival in Durham has been called "the world's greatest dance festival" and features a stunning six-week performance series. All prominent modern dance figures and companies are at some time associated with the ADF.

The Durham Arts Council is a hub of cultural activity and provides avenues for involvement for all ages in performance, exhibits, classes and festivals.

Triangle Opera Theater performs the greatest in operatic repertory and is a well-loved staple of Triangle cultural life.
 
Visual Arts

The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh is considered to be one of the top seventeen museums in America, with highly respected collections generally regarded as the best in the Southeast.

Duke Museum of Art houses impressive collections in Medieval, African, American, Far Eastern and pre-Columbian art.

The Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill showcases some of the Southeast's strongest collections of Indian and Western art. Of special interest is North Carolina pottery and wood carvings.

The Museum of History includes exciting exhibits of the accomplishments of women, the State's sports heroes and North Carolina folklife.

The Gallery of Contemporary Art displays national and regional travelling exhibitions of paintings, sculpture, crafts, photography and applied design art.

The Artspace Complex presents artists at work in the style of a French atelier. Galleries exhibit works and visitors can participate in hands-on activities.

Festivals

Artsplosure in downtown Raleigh is a seventeen-day continuous multi-dimensional celebration representing visual and performing arts. Dance, music, artwork and crafts cover the city in a moving tabloid.

Centerfest in Durham is a colorful street festival of arts, crafts and music involving artists throughout the Southeast.

Lazy Days Arts and Crafts Festival in Cary has become another Triangle tradition, featuring craftsmen and artisans from the region along with lively entertainment from cloggers to bluegrass bands.

Apple Chill and Festifall in Chapel Hill are two street festivals which offer a variety of arts, crafts, music and dance, clogging, magicians, puppet shows, jugglers and potters.

The Folklife Festival is a two-day event held a the scenic West Point Park on the Eno River in Durham. This festival celebrates the rich heritage in crafts, music and dance by recalling vanishing traditions and techniques. Artisans demonstrate the old-time methods of their crafts.

The State Fair in Raleigh is a 10 day event considered one of the best in the country. Its features include national known live entertainment, agricultural and crafts exhibits, a midway, rides and food.
